One Tree = Ten Air Conditioners
The following is from "The Wisdom of Trees 2009 Plant-A-Tree Calendar," by americanforests.org
Trees provide energy-saving shade when strategically planted and can cut your need for air-conditioning in half. Trees positioned to shade roofs, west-facing walls, windows, and pavement greatly reduce heat buildup. Trees’ transpiration (evaporative effect) works as a natural air conditioner to cool the surrounding air. Amazingly, the cooling effect of a young tree is equivalent to ten room-size air conditioners operating twenty hours a day.

Free reusable bags distribution, November 11, 2008
Roche Bros. donated nearly 500 bags for WRSE to give away in an effort to reduce the use of plastic bags when we shop. WRSE member Karen Sauer demonstrated what a year's worth of plastic bags by the typical user looks like in her self-made plastic bag outfit. Not a pretty sight. More
