City Council to hold hearing on gas pipeline safety

We all are painfully aware of the recent gas explosions in the Merrimack Valley. In the wake of that disaster as well as National Grid’s winning of the City’s law suit attempting to force the utility to repair all gas leaks within six years and the City’s losing the appeal against the West Roxbury Lateral pipeline, Councilors Matt O’Malley, Ed Flynn, and Ayanna Pressley have called for a gas safety hearing. The Council will examine the safety of the gas infrastructure in Boston, the prevention of potentially dangerous gas leaks, and education and preparedness for emergency response. The hearing should take place this month but has not yet been scheduled. We will post the date here as soon as it is available.
