Earth Day 2009

To celebrate Earth Day, the Plastic Bag Outfit returns . . .
this time to Centre Street

WRSE Steering Committee member Karen Sauer again donned her outfit of 350 plastic bags (representing the number of plastic bags the average person uses each year) to bring attention to our need to reduce the use of plastic bags, which ruin the environment and use millions of gallons of petroleum annually to produce. Macy’s Liquors and CVS generously donated their reusable bags to WRSE, and members distributed nearly 200 free bags throughout the morning on Centre Street to passers-by, reminding them to take along reusable bags whenever they shop. This was WRSE’s way of marking Earth Day 2009, and we are grateful for participation by local businesses in order to make this possible.
